After last week’s wedding weekend with my family in Little Rock, Arkansas, I keep thinking about this song.
On November 6, my cousin, Sarah, married her sweetie, Trent, surrounded by friends and family. The ceremony was lovely, and the reception was an absolute BLAST!!
We had all been looking forward to this celebration since before Covid. Now, with the vaccine, we were glad to get together finally.
Lots of people, including me, flew in from around the country. One guy even came in from Canada. Sarah set up a FB live link to watch the ceremony for those who couldn’t attend.
I sat with my sister and our cousins, enjoying this rare opportunity to spend time together, laughing, eating, drinking, and dancing. To be honest, I’ve been a bit shy and anxious in the past, not wanting to embarrass myself or anyone else with my enthusiasm.
However, this time was different. Letting love steer my rudder, I decided to leave all of my inhibitions at home and lean into the joy of the moment.
Celebrating good times
Instead of worrying about what anyone else thought of me, I focused on letting the Source of life itself celebrate through me. Whatever they thought or said wasn’t going to ruin my good time. After waiting for years, and traveling across the country, I didn’t want to waste a perfect opportunity to thoroughly enjoy myself and inspire everyone else to have fun too.
I couldn’t have had a better time if I tried. I did my best to leave it all on the dancefloor and near the end of the evening, I even did an impromptu Stretch with some of Sarah’s friends.
If you’re one of those people reading this post, I thank you for your time and attention! As I said that night, I can’t change the dark and scary stuff out in the world, but I can be a light, connecting to my Captain, and shining bright for all to see.
Sometimes, my anxiety still tries to convince me to dim myself down and play it safe. However, at 52 years old, I’m sick and tired of waiting to thoroughly enjoy my life.
Like Whitney sang, “I wanna dance with somebody! With somebody who loves me! “
How about you, my friendly blog reader?
Do you let loose on the dancefloor?
Have you ever let the Source of life itself celebrate through you? How did it go?
I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
xoxo Pam
p.s. Thanks again, Sarah, Trent, Christine, ShirleyAnne, Kathie, Candace, Uncle Charlie, Aunt Sharon, Amy, Michael, Maya, and all of the new friends who shared this incredible experience with me! I’m sending big love you all!
